'Certain people needed' for student market
Student landlords often have to be more hands on as these clients
do not usually have a great deal of life experience, the National
Landlords Association (NLA) has stated.
Vice chairman at the NLA John Socha claimed that "not everyone's
cut out for it" and that students need more attention than most
residents.
He added that students are more demanding than they were 20 years
ago and that they expect the amenities that they had before they
left for higher education.
"My first advice to everyone who decides to go into [student
letting] is that you have to remember that you're dealing with
young people," he commented.
Students are often not realistic about a number of things, he
remarked, such as when trades people need access to carry out
maintenance or repairs.
The NLA says that it exists in order to protect its members, of
which there are more than 13,000.
