Renting 'must lose stigma'

The notion that home ownership is somehow more esteemed than
renting should be negated, an organisation said.
Different consumers benefit from various types of tenure, the
Chartered Institute of Housing stated, so renters should not be
looked down on.
The circumstances of every individual must be taken into account
when they are looking at the property market, director of policy
and practice at the body Richard Capie suggested.
He explained: "What matters is affordability and a home that meets
individuals' and families' circumstances."
And people's financial situations could change while they are on
various stages of the ladder, head of policy at the organisation
Abigail Davies noted.
She added that the "stigma" attached to the rental industry ought
to be removed if the market is to progress.
Life could change while people are on various sections of the
ladder, Ms Davies noted, in terms of finances.
According to the British Property Federation, the availability of
more professional rented accommodation could aid affordability
issues in the wider market.
