"Very competitive" prices available for home improvements

Some "very competitive" prices are being offered to homeowners
considering making significant structural improvements to their
houses, one industry organisation has asserted.
Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council
(NHIC), which represents companies working in the home improvement
sector, said that now is an excellent time to have an extension
done - for those with access to the appropriate finances - because
building costs are lower than usual.
His comments follow the release of statistics from Sainsbury's Home
Insurance, which indicate that the number of homeowners planning
extensions has fallen by 39 per cent in the last year.
"There are some pretty keen prices coming through from builders for
work to be done - very competitive quotes," said Mr Leech.
"It is a good time to start on something like that."
He added that homeowners should be aware of the importance of
notifying insurance companies of any planned changes to their
property.
